In this section of the website I will share past and present films made over the years, under the following general headings.
Experimental Films
Thanks to recent Project Projection screenings at Mills Folly Microcinema, I’ve got the itch to start making films and videos again after a long hiatus.
I will also share some 16mm films and VHS videos from the 1990s and early 2000s, depending on to what degree they are embarrassing all these years later.
Video Essays
Everybody’s doing video essays, from academics to fanboys, so I should jump on the bandwagon, too. My first ventures into this realm will be commentary on short clips of upcoming films at Mills Folly Microcinema, MMoCA Cinema, and Duck Soup Cinema. Then, the plan will be to produce very short, focused observations that will build up to a longer video essay. My first attempt at the form can be seen in video produced during the Madison Film Forum website days to preview a 2015 Cinematheque screening of Caravan (1934).
Still Photography
Not moving images, I understand. But in my role as Public Programs Coordinator at Arts + Literature Laboratory I’ve been doing still photography at concerts, artist talks, readings, and exhibition openings. Having the camera in my hand and capturing events on the fly has made me think about image making in a different way that I hope will inform some upcoming moving image projects. So I’ll build a portfolio page for some of my still images here.
