Daily Cardinal (1990-1993)

Under Construction

The Daily Cardinal is one of two daily newspapers on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My first “big” review to appear in its pages was for David Lynch’s Wild at Heart in 1990.

I graduated in December, 1992, but most of what I have saved is from early 1993.

I don’t have too many articles saved from this era. But here are two of them. Ah, to be young and to not know what you do not know . . . but to try anyway.

I didn’t necessarily have the most insightful take on Fluxus and the Fluxfilm Anthology in 1993, but the films continued to have a lasting influence on me. I particularly appreciated George Maciunas’s “Some comments on ‘Structural Film’ by P. Adams Sitney” in Film Culture #47 (1969) as more Andy Warhol silent films became available again in the late 1990s. The Fluxfilm Anthology was included in the 2019 incarnation of Underground Films, Underground, very likely the only off-campus 16mm screening of the films in Madison since the Madison Art Center screening in 1993.
